Reilly - About Me

I'm "the robot guy", at least that's what they call me.  But my favorite things about teaching are:
  • inspire young people about cool tech careers
  • entrepreneurial ideas and attempts
  • making stuff
I teach the courses listed to the left, as well as many other things.
Beyond the classroom, I am the sponsor for Robotics, Game Programming, TSA (Technology Student Assocation), and more. In my spare time I'm the school webmaster, tech assistant to staff, and general geek.  I am also working with Georgia Tech this year on a National Science Foundation music programming initiative (http://earsketch.gatech.edu) as well as ramping up our FIRST Robotics team and more entrepreneurial tech with things like Arduino and more.

Braggin' time (skip if you want!):  My certifications include Autodesk 3DS Max, Autodesk Inventor, Oracle SQL Programming.  I am on the Autodesk Educators Council, a technical consultant to Children's International, and have presented at Autodesk University, the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), and the Special Interest Group for Computer Science Education (SIGCSE).  I was a finalist for GCPS Teacher of the Year in 2009, was Georgia's 2014 Aspirations Award winner from the National Center for Women and Information Technology, one of the 2004 National Teacher of the Year winners from the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship, and a few other things. Our CDAT program has been in numerous publications, from the local Gwinnett Daily Post and FOX5 Atlanta, to edutopia.org, creativecow.net, and even in the book "Bringing Innovation to School".  My students have won numerous State and other championships, including national and world levels.  They sure do make me look good!

I am so lucky to work with the most cutting edge teachers in Georgia, possibly in the Country.  I truly believe education needs to evolve, and this is a great opportunity with the support of GCPS and our leaders at Lanier!

Here's my schedule for 2014-2015:
(waiting on this)

Check out the other pages if you're in one of those classes, and please email me at mreilly@lanierhs.org if you have questions, suggestions, etc.
